Widen Route 288 from four lanes to six lanes in both directions in the improvement corridor between Powhite Parkway and the Commonwealth Centre Parkway interchange.
Why It’s Needed
By the year 2047, an estimated 90,000 vehicles per day are expected on Route 288. This is 40% over capacity for a four-lane limited access highway.
Benefits
Widening Route 288 will:
- Provide needed capacity to accommodate increasing traffic volumes on Route 288
- Provide for a more efficient commute on Route 288
- Reduce traffic congestion and back-ups during peak travel times
- Reduce the risk of vehicle crashes in this area
